Mental Health First Aid is national best-practice, evidenced-based certification course that is 8 hours in length and leads to a 3 year certification issued by the National Council on Behavioral Health.  By designed it is intended to mirror the idea of regular first aid by empowering individuals with just enough information to respond and help guide someone with a mental health need to the right kind of help.

This particular training event is specific to Law Enforcement and Public Safety and contains modules targeting populations consistent with Law Enforcement contact, Corrections, and Public Safety.

This training is not appropriate for the general public, however, NAMI offers similar training around the State of Maine for other populations such as the general public, those who work with youth, those who work with Veterans, Higher Ed, and Rural communities.
