Suicide is an often-preventable tragedy, and effective prevention relies on trained and prepared healthcare staff who see suicide prevention as part of their role and have clear protocols they follow. MGMC is committed to implementing training and clinical processes to address the prevention of suicide across its programs. All staff who interact with patients have a role in preventing suicide.

This training is for MGMC staff working in supervision, management and other administrative leadership roles. It will address suicide prevention and management from a systems perspective and outline a clear rationale and process for implementation of suicide prevention across healthcare settings. The approach will follow a national best-practice model of suicide-safer care involving the integration of efforts across all levels of staff who interact with patients. The training will review elements of screening, assessing risk, intervention, safety planning and assured follow-up after a crisis.
