AAP Releases New Guidelines for Wellness Checks

In the January 2016 issue of Pedatrics, the American Academy of Pediatrics released new guidelines for what screenings to include as part of children's wellness checkup visits. They recommend that all people ages 11-21 should be screened for depression, as suicide is one of the leading causes of death for this age group.

 

With the National Institute of Mental Health reporting that teens experiencing major depression in the last few years has exceeded 10%, it is vital for member's of a child's primary care team to evaluate for physical and mental health concerns with equal urgency.
