NAMI was founded in the 1980's by a group of parents who needed support from their community. They understood the need to connect with others through a shared experience - a recovery foundation that continues to be built into our programming today.
Individually our experiences can be overwhelming. Together, when we share stories about our struggles and successes with mental illness, we strengthen skills and resiliency.
