This is an Independent Awareness Raising Event for NAMI Portland's walk team. This presentation is intended to develop suicide prevention awareness in a general audience. This training will provide general and basic information on suicide with resources available for further training - including materials produced by the Maine Suicide Prevention Program and NAMI Maine. Learn what you can do to help. It’s up to all of us.

NAMI Portland Presents: Suicide Prevention & Awareness Training at USM Wishcamper Center

This event is intended to raise awareness about mental health, suicide and the free resources available through NAMI Portland and NAMI Maine.This training is for parents, school staff, community organizations and anyone who wants to expand their knowledge and skills around suicide awareness and prevention. This free training will improve your ability to recognize when someone is struggling and build the skills needed to connect with that person and get them the support they need. Topics for the session include: beliefs around suicide; how to talk about suicide in a supportive way; statistics; warning signs and risk factors; intervention skills; and resources.


This training meets the LD609 requirements for school staff. Certificates of completion will be on hand at the end of this event.


Donations will be gratefully accepted, but not required, to attend this event. All donations will be applied to NAMI Portland's walk team that help provide free support and education programs such as this.

There are affiliated organizations throughout the state who work to improve access to needed services, reduce stigma, and speak out about issues of importance to people with mental illness and their families. All affiliates sponsor support groups and many also sponsor trainings and provide other outreach services.
