The primary function of a Respite Manager is to facilitate appropriate matches between families and providers in their region of the state. This includes guidance with the application process, support with provider searches, supervision of providers, and documentation of all contacts and identified needs.

Duties and responsibilities

The mission of NAMI Maine’s Family Respite Program is to support the healthy functioning of families by providing safe and professional childcare services to children with developmental delays and/or behavioral health diagnoses. Respite is defined as “The temporary relief from the responsibility of constant care giving.” The Regional Manager for Region 3 will invest her time providing information to local families, prospective respite workers, local service provider staff, and other community members about the NAMI Maine Respite Services Program.

The manager will help potential families understand what the service is, who is eligible to receive the service, how to apply, and how families can maximize the benefit of these services. They also help people interested in providing respite services gather information they need about the nature of the job, and how to apply for a position with NAMI Maine as a provider of respite services. This outreach is offered by phone, e-mail, and in person. Innovative approaches to respite provider recruitment and family/provider matching are encouraged.

Additional duties include attending staff meetings, representing NAMI Maine and the Respite Program at public events and public speaking to groups wanting information about respite services making some evening/weekend work required at times. The Regional Respite Manager is also required to follow up with providers/families and work closely with case managers.

Additional duties:

  • Attend 2 staff meetings per month in Augusta
  • Participate in any program meetings/retreats as required by the Respite Director
  • Conduct orientations for new respite provider hires
  • Provide supervision to all providers as outlined in the grant
  • Recruit new providers and network with agencies and organizations who support families who utilize respite services
  • Enter & maintain information on NAMI Maine’s Respite Database for providers and families enrolled in the respite program
  • Serve as an “ambassador” for NAMI in the northern part of the state, particularly Aroostook County


Bachelors in social work or human services and 2 years of related experience or license in social work or counseling, BCBA, or RN degree required. Understanding of the complex needs of families with children who have disabilities and the systems that serve them is essential. Exceptional communication skills and ability to work independently. Successful candidate is required to have a valid driver’s license and a vehicle they can use for travel.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $38,000.00 to $43,000.00 /year
